Janis Gailis

Janis Gailis has a master degree in informatics from University of Oslo 1996).

Work experience: 1996-2000 system developer at Agricultural University College at Ås, Norway (working on weather prediction modelling), 2000-2002 system analyst and developer in the consultancy firm ITRessurs/Kitrus (working on customization and integration of open source software), from 2002 Assistant Professor at the Agder University College (newly University of Agder, UiA, www.uia.no).

Janis Gailis has been working on design and implementation of courses in distributed systems, programming (Java, C/C++, PHP, Python, Ruby, Perl), operating systems and data communication and open source software. He has also participated in planning and development of IT infrastructure for use of open source software in education at AUC (now UiA), and in development of infrastructure for use of social software (wiki, blog, forum, open source cms, secondlife etc.) at UiA. He has published a few articles in the areas of e-culture and open source in education.
